9 REASONS YOU SHOULD CHOOSE YORK COUNTY SOUTH CAROLINA WHEN RE-LOCATING TO THE CHARLOTTE, NC REGION!

The cat's out of the bag and we can no longer hide the secret...York County South Carolina is fast becoming one of the magnet destinations for those looking to re-locate to the Charlotte, NC region.

As a former transplant myself from Columbus, Ohio, I can testify that Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Tega Cay, Lake Wylie, Clover, Indian Land...all of these areas are deserving of this title. I'm going to give you my 9 Reason You Should Choose York County South Carolina When Relocating To The Charlotte, NC Region!

#1 Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

Charlotte, North Carolina Relocation Magnet Because of Jobs
Charlotte Is Consider The Financial Capital of The South...2nd Only To Wall Street

A bulk of those migrating to the Charlotte area are post-graduates. Charlotte has become an employment destination and attracts immigration from all age groups, but especially millennials.

This has created high demand for housing…and short commute times. As a result, Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill, Lake Wylie and Clover have seen tremendous growth the last 10 years due to proximity to work in Charlotte and the endless amenities the area has to offer!

#2 Taxes Are Ridiculous…RIDICULOULSY LOW!

It’s no wonder so many people that relocate from such high property tax States like New York, New Jersey, Illinois and Ohio literally have a “jaw-drop” moment when they find out how low the taxes are on property in York County South Carolina.

When we first moved to Fort Mill and had a house built we had to do a double take on the taxes. What some people pay in New Jersey as a monthly property tax, you will pay yearly in Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Tega Cay…anywhere in York County. We pay 80% less in property taxes than we did living in Columbus, Ohio for more house and more property!

#3 Proximity To E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!

Did I say everything? You bet. We have never lived in a place that is so close and so accessible to so much. South Carolina is unique in that is offers 4 distinct zones of landscape and climate. Within a 5 hour drive you can go from being sea-level in the low country haven of Hilton Head Island and move through the Sand Hills, the Piedmont, the foothills and finish in the mountains.

Plus we have access to Atlanta (3Hr), Greenville (2Hr), Columbia (1Hr), Charleston (3.5Hr), Myrtle Beach (3.5Hr), Wilmington (4.5Hr) and so much more!

Each diverse, distinct and crazy beautiful. There are lakes everywhere, every kind of hiking and biking trail you can think of, parks, rivers, kayaking, canoeing, camping, whitewater rafting…ok, I need to stop. Just know, when you relocate it will take years to explore all this are has to offer!

#4 Sports Destination Hub

Housed right here in Rock Hill, South Carolina in York County is a first rate, world class velodrome. What is a velodrome you ask? It is arena for track cycling. Modern velodromes feature steeply banked oval tracks, consisting of two 180-degree circular bends connected by two straights. What makes this so special is how few there are in the US, and how it has become a destination for racers from all over to come. You can sit on a sunny day and watch competitions free.

Right around the corner from the Velodrome is the Rock Hill BMX Supercross track. The Summer of 2017 saw the UCI BMX World Championships come to town and let me tell you…our family had a blast the entire week as thousands descended on the area from over 25 countries to compete at every level up to the pro’s.

But there is one other priceless sporting destination that needs it’s very own spot…see #5...

#5 US National Whitewater Center

The U.S. National Whitewater Center is an outdoor recreation and athletic training facility for whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain biking, and hiking. The USNWC may represent all the best parts of living in the Charlotte North Carolina area all in one place.

Just check out this list…

· Craft Beer on tap

· Live Music…with GREAT bands

· High Quality Gourmet food, food trucks, and bar food all in one place

· Patios everywhere, with views of all the sports…zip lining, rafting, kayaking, rock wall (that has a pool to fall into)…all sitting on the Catawba river

· Summer Concert series that brings families and young professionals out in droves for a fun filled evening under the stars. Just bring a blanket and pop a squat…our kids LOVE doing this

· Miles and miles of mountain biking trails

· More miles of hiking trails

· Hammock hooks everywhere…you provide the hammock and book though

· Canoe, kayak and stand up paddle board rentals for the river

Do I really need to keep going ha ha? This alone is a great reason to re-locate to the Charlotte region. From Rock Hill and Fort Mill South Carolina you can get to the USNWC in about 30 minutes.

#6 Two Words: “Sweet Tea”

There is nothing like Sweet Tea on a hot Carolina Day!

I don’t care if it’s simply iced tea with a truck load of sugar…there is nothing like the sweet tea you get in good ole Piedmont South Carolina.

It doesn’t matter if you hit the local Bojangles, Zaxby’s, Famous Toastry…our Sweet Tea is better than yours!

When we first relocated to Fort Mill, SC I was never a “tea” kinda guy. But, after experiencing these Summers and mowing an acre of grass…I now understand the glory of a nice cold glass of South Carolina Sweet Tea…and you will too when you move here.

#7 Another ABC Day!

The sunny blue skies of South Carolina never get old!

Living in Ohio for nearly 38 years of my life, I never realized how used to the constant gray, overcast skies I had become. My wife is from Africa and when she first moved to Columbus, OH with me she would hit a “wall” every February and long for a warm, sunny day. Well, we long no more.

Now that we live in the Rock Hill area we have come to expect an ABC Day…almost every day. Another Blue Carolina Day. The weather here is virtually untouchable by anywhere else (yes even California…because we actually have green, lush landscape). There are really 3 seasons here…Pre-Summer, Summer (smoking hot I’ll admit), Post-Summer. Maybe, in the right year, we have a “fallish-winter” week or two.

It does snow here…but you better get out and enjoy it first thing in the morning, because by the afternoon its all gone.

Regardless, one thing is for sure, when you re-locate to York County South Carolina (Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Lake Wylie, Clover, Catawba etc) you will quickly become accustomed to the seemingly endless days of sun.

#8 Anne Springs Close Greenway

It’s not often in life that individuals forsake personal gain for the collective good. This is the case with Anne Springs Close Greenway, and the entire Fort Mill Community is thankful.

The greenway is an extensive, protected, natural area in Fort Mill, South Carolina. When our family initially re-located to York County we immediately began scouting out areas to hike and bike.

To our surprise we discovered The Anne Springs Close Greenway and the more than 2100 acres of lakes, forest and pastures that include trails for hiking, biking, kayaking and horseback riding. The land was donated as a preserve by one of the long time local families that have ties to the area known as the Springs Company. The company was part of the old time Mill towns (Chester, Great Falls, Lancaster, Rock Hill, Fort Mill) and has extensive roots in the community.

Anne Springs Close Greenway also has a Tennis and Indoor Recreation center with pools, gyms, weight rooms, racquetball and activity rooms. I would say this just might be the Crown Jewel of York County SC because it really serves a dual purpose.

It offers the community a sprawling, lush link to nature, houses Billy Grahams grandfathers cabin, and creates a natural buffer that prevents Charlotte from spilling over the boards with urban sprawl.

If you do indeed re-locate to York County South Carolina, especially the Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Tega Cay or Indian Land area…you must utilize this one of a kind natural resource!

It's no wonder why over 100 people a day are relocating to the Charlotte, NC area!

There are very few cities in American that have such a great outlook for both the present and the future as Charlotte, NC. Not only does this city regularly get awards for its quality of living, it’s also the third fastest growing city of its size in the country.
